'Uncle Sam' I Want You Poster

New in our gallery and store: In one of the most famous and recognizable posters in the world, the Uncle Sam I Want You poster shows Uncle Sam pointing his finger at the viewer and telling them, "I Want You For U.S. Army." The phrase "Nearest Recruiting Station" has a blank space below where an address for enlisting would be added. The "Uncle Sam" figure originally appeared on the cover of the July 6, 1916, issue of Leslie's Weekly with a title of "What Are You Doing for Preparedness?" Illustrator James Montgomery Flagg contributed a large number of images to support the WWI war effort. Because of the popularity of this image it was also used in WWII for recruiting. Our reproduction is from a lithograph produced c. 1917. [More WWI Posters]
